Govt serious about stemming VAW: Home Minister Khand

KATHMANDU: Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand on Wednesday said that the government was serious about stopping violence against women and children.

“The government’s first priority is to save the lives of its citizens. The state provides security for people to live freely,” he said while receiving a memorandum submitted by the Inter-Party Women’s Alliance at the Ministry of Home.

The memorandum has drawn the attention of the government to ‘increasing’ incidents of violence against women and children in the country.

Stating that incidents of violence against women and children were increasing lately, the Alliance Chairperson Kalyani Rijal demanded with the minister that such incidents be investigated, the victims get ‘decent’ compensations, and perpetrators be booked.

Such incidents have increased during the lockdown and prohibitory order imposed to stop the spread of COVID-19 infection said the Alliance.
