TIA suspends regular flight operation due to poor visibility

KATHMANDU: The Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu has been closed due to a lack of aerial visibility on Sunday.

According to the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority Airport Office, the flight was canceled due to a lack of necessary visibility at the airport.

According to TIA sources, the flight has been closed since Sunday morning.

The Kathmandu Valley has witnessed smoke and haze Sunday as well.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has stated that the air in the atmosphere in several parts of Nepal was in static condition.

It added that the polluting particles are floating in the air resulting in an increased level of pollution. Such a condition is likely to lead to respiratory problems and eye irritation.

According to the Department, the chance of improvement in the atmospheric condition for some days seems slim.

Meanwhile, the Department has urged people to stay indoors or avoid travel except for essential work.

“The minimum visibility for the operation of the flights is up to 800 meters, but Kathmandu has it far less now,” he said.

Likewise, the visibility requirement for the small plane’s landing is 1,600 meters, and for larger ones should be 2,800 meters.

It’s still uncertain when the operation will return to normalcy, sources said.
