SC orders PM Oli to appear before court with written reply

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered Prime Minister KP Oli to appear before the court in person in contempt of court case filed against him.

A single bench of Justice Manoj Sharma on Thursday issued an order for the Minister to appear in person within seven days with a written reply.

The court made the order while hearing the petitions of senior advocates Kumar Acharya and Kanchan Krishna Neupane.

The petitioners have claimed that Prime Minister insulted the dignity of the court through his remarks while the case against the dissolution of the House of Representatives is sub-judice at the apex court.

They have also quoted the remarks by the Prime Minister terming a lawyer as ‘grandfather lawyer’ for taking part in the hearing and jeering the ongoing hearing on the writ against the dissolution of HoR calling it a ‘spectacle’.

They have demanded maximum punishment as per Clause 17 of the Judicial Council Act 2073 BS.
