SC hearing on writ UML chair Oli filed against defecting lawyers including Madhav Nepal

KATHMANDU: A case filed by CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli against 14 lawmakers including Madhav Kumar Nepal in the Supreme Court has been enlisted for Monday’s hearing.

Earlier, UML Chair Oli had filed a case against the Election Commission and Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota for registering a new party without dismissing 14 defecting lawmakers including leader Nepal.

The case is assigned to the division bench of Justices Tej Bahadur KC and Tanka Bahadur Moktan. It’s still unsure whether the case will get the chance for hearing it today.

Hearing the case earlier, a bench of Justices Deepak Karki and Kumar Chundal had ordered to seek the original papers and a written reply from the opposition without giving an interim order.

Citing the issue of discipline, including not giving a vote of confidence to the then Prime Minister Oli, the UML had taken action against 14 lawmakers and sent the letter to the Election Commission and the Parliament Secretariat.

Hailing the Election Commission’s indifference and Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota inaction responsible for the party split, UML has been obstructing the parliament since long.
