Hearing on HoR dissolution concludes for today

KATHMANDU: The hearing on the dissolution of the House of Representatives has concluded for Sunday.

With today’s closing, the time provided for the lawyers of the petitioners in the hearing has also ended. As many as 36 lawyers argued in the hearing that began on June 23.

The Constitutional Bench had allotted 12 hours to lawyers of the petitioners for the hearing on the case.

“We had given 12 hours to writ petitioners and that time is over,” said Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana.

CJ Rana also informed that the debate from the defendants’ side would start from Monday.

President’s Office, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota and others are named defendants in the writ filed on behalf of 146 Members of Parliament, including Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.

The bench has allotted 15 hours to the defendants.

After the defendants’ present their arguments, amicus curiae will give their opinion. After the amicus curiae, lawyers of the writ petitioners will get 3 additional hours to present counter-arguments.
