10-day mandatory quarantine for South Asian travelers bound to Qatar



KATHMANDU: People bound to Qatar from South Asian countries, including Nepal and India, will have to undergo 10-day mandatory isolation upon reaching there.

Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health on Monday decided on the provision in view of soaring cases of coronavirus in South Asia region. Likewise, the rule is also applicable to people heading to Qatar from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Philippines.

A press release posted on Qatari Ministry of Public Health website reads, “The Ministry of Public Health announced that due to the emergence of a new strain of the “Covid-19″ virus in India, and in order to preserve public health in the State of Qatar, it was decided that no exceptions to the hotel quarantine policy will apply and that the following measures should be implemented for travelers coming from India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Philippines, whether they are traveling through direct flight or via other countries (transit).”

The rule will come into effect from April 29 (Thursday), according to the Nepali mission based in Doha.

People entering Qatar will have to furnish a COVID-19 negative PCR report, which should be issued before 48 hours. The rule will also apply to those who have been vaccinated.
