Heavy snowfall blocks Mid-Hill Highway in Rukum East, dozens stranded

KATHMANDU: Continuous heavy snowfall in Rukum East has blocked a section of the Mid-Hill Highway, leaving dozens of vehicles and passengers stranded.

The blocked area is the Lukum–Patihalna stretch in Bhume Rural Municipality–1, where snow accumulation since last night has made the road impassable.

Keshwaraj Gyawali, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Rukum East, said several night buses traveling from Kathmandu are currently stuck along the blocked route.

According to Gyawali, seven buses, one jeep, and five motorcycles are stranded, with over 250 passengers affected.

Persistent snowfall and rainfall have complicated efforts to reopen the road. Telecommunication services are also disrupted in the area, adding to the difficulties.

Police and local authorities are coordinating to assist stranded passengers and restore road access as soon as possible.
