KATHMANDU: Nepal Gems and Jewelry Association is set to establish a laboratory to test diamonds in Nepal.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Jyotsana Shrestha, President of the Association informed that gems lab would be set up and operational within the next three months.

There is no diamond lab in Nepal till date and there is a problem in identifying its quality.

“The absence of diamond testing lab has caused lots of problems in ensuring the quality of the diamond,” President Shrestha said, “We have also established a training center to prepare skilled manpower.”

She added that the association will facilitate the government and businessmen to develop the gems and jewelry sector as an export-oriented industry and to formulate policy arrangements for recognition and facilities accordingly.
