Khabarhub organizing debate on “Terrorism Threats in South Asia”



KATHMANDU: Khabarhub is organizing a debate on “Terrorism Threats in South Asia”, coinciding with the 13th year of the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attack today.

The debate to be held at Pavilion Hall, in Durbar Marg, Kathmandu, from 2 pm will bring together notable speakers from across various professions, including security, defense, diplomatic community and analysts, among others.

The discussion will particularly focus on South Asia’s regional security dynamics that have changed significantly following the downfall of Afghanistan into Taliban hands, and the need for diplomatic and security apparatus to counter terrorism threats in the region.

Speakers include intelligence expert and former chief of National Investigation Department (NID) Devi Ram Sharma; retired Inspector General of Armed Police Force (APF) Kishor Kumar Lama; security expert, retired Addition Inspector General (AIG) of APF Rabi Raj Thapa; retired APF AIG Dr. Thakur Mohan Shrestha; and former Ambassador of Nepal to Denmark Vijay Kant Karna.

Likewise, other speakers include investigation expert and retired Deputy Inspector General of Nepal Police Hemanta Malla Thakuri; retired Brigadier General of Nepal Army (NA) Suresh Sharma; security expert, retired Brigadier General Bijendra Gautam; geopolitical analyst Arun Kumar Subedi; and Associate Director, Global Engagement Division, Office of Vice-Chancellor, Kathmandu University Dr. Udhhav Pyakuryal, who is also a writer and keen analyst.

Similarly, counter-terrorism analyst, Narayan Adhikari; security analysts Rajendra Sharma and Abhaya Raj Joshi, and security expert Dr. Indira Adhikari will also put forth their views at the debate. The debate will be moderated by the Strategic Affairs Editor of Khabarhub Dr. Pramod Jaiswal.

Speakers will also express their views on the evolving new threats to regional peace and security, cross-border terrorism after the Taliban takeover as well as different forms of terrorism such as state-sponsored terrorism activities, designated terrorist groups, among others.
