Amidst mounting tensions at SC, Judges shorten leaves to attend court



KATHMANDU: As the crisis in the court deepens, two judges who were on leave have returned to the Supreme Court (SC) shortening their pastimes.

SC Judges Kumar Chudal and Nahakul Subedi returned to the court on Tuesday.

According to SC sources, although Justice Subedi was granted a one-week leave, he returned to the court on the second day.

Similarly, Justice Chudal had also taken leave till next Thursday. But he also returned to the SC on Tuesday.

Monday’s hearing at SC and the full court meeting convened by Chief Justice could not take place due to dispute between the Chief Justice and the SC judges.

In a separate meeting on Monday, the judges concluded that the chief justice should resign and help retain the credibility of the court.

Meanwhile, the judges are meeting Chief Justice Rana today.

The judiciary has witnessed crisis since Chief Justice Rana allegedly sought share in appointment in constitutional bodies during KP Oli-led government and ministerial posts in Sher Bahadur Deuba government.
