World Tourism Day: Diplomats from different countries reach Pokhara city

KATHMANDU: Ambassadors and diplomats from different countries have reached Pokhara on Sunday at the invitation of Gandaki Province government on the occasion of World Tourism Day.

Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism, Industry, Commerce and Supplies Gyanendra Poudel, Chairperson of Pokhara Tourism Council Gopi Bahadur Bhattarai and others welcomed the diplomats at Pokhara Airport. The officials confirmed the arrival of diplomats of Qatar, UAE, Finland, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Germany and other countries.

Likewise, Secretary-General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and the chiefs of other diplomatic missions are also in the team.

Secretary Poudel said that the ongoing visit of the diplomats is believed to spread positive messages to recover and promote the tourism business. Likewise, Bhattarai said that the visit of diplomats has added excitement to the tourism fraternity in Pokhara. This visit would give the message that Pokhara is open to tourists and the trip was aimed at giving a message that Pokhara is a safe destination to the tourists for visit, Bhattarai added.

In honor of the visiting diplomats, the Gandaki Province Government organized a dinner reception.

On Monday, the diplomats are scheduled to visit cultural and natural heritages in and around Pokhara and go for short hiking. The diplomats on Monday are also scheduled to join the street festival at Lakeside in Pokhara.
