Final hearing of 38 quintal gold smuggling case begins from today



BIRATNAGAR: The final hearing of the 38 quintal gold smuggling case that came to the fore during the investigation of Sanam Shakya’s murder case in Urlabari of Morang is being heard from today.

The final hearing will be held in the district court of Morang from today.

Shakya died in Urlabari Municipality-1 of Morang in the Nepali month of Falgun 18, 2074 after being tortured by a group of smugglers after 33 kg of gold went missing.

A gold smuggling racket had come to the fore during the investigation of the murder.

The final hearing of the case related to Shakya murder and gold smuggling, which was registered about four years ago, will be held in the bench of District Court Morang Judge Bharat Lamsal.

A case was filed against 63 people, including high-ranking police officers under four headings for setting up and operating a criminal group, smuggling gold, kidnapping and taking hostages and murders.

77 people have been made defendants through two supplementary charges.
