Trout fries produced in Rasuwa reach Darchula

RASUWA: Fries of Trout fish produced in Rasuwa, a district in the central part of the country, have been transported up to Darchula in the far-west.

Trout fishing has been promoted in this mountainous district in the Bagmati Province to increase people’s income and support their livelihood.

With the decline in the number of farmers engaged in fisheries in the district, the Rainbow Trout Fisheries Research Station, Rasuwa is providing technical know-how about pisciculture to farmers as per their interests and has expanded its business up to Darchula, the district in the Sudur Paschim province.

The Station that was established here some seven years ago (2071 BS) produces the fish of Japanese Rainbow Trout species. More, the trial production of fish of two species brought from China has also begun here.

The Station using the Trishuli River is rearing millions of fries in the Imrung area of Dhunche. But, at the local level, only five farmers are involved in trout farming.

The 2015 April earthquake had widely affected fish farming as almost all farmers lost the fish ponds to the quake. Farmers could not restore the business due to economic issue
