KATHMANDU: The Constitution Watch Group headed by former Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha has termed the dissolution of the reconstituted House of Representatives as an unconstitutional step.
The Group, which also includes former Chief Justice Sushila Karki, has stated in this regard labeling it as unconstitutional.
It has also concluded that dissolving the parliament at the stage of forming an alternative government under Article 76 of the constitution was unconstitutional after the government failed to get a vote of confidence from the House of Representatives.
According to the Group, the President’s decision to dissolve the House of Representatives on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers without a valid reason has seriously deviated and obstructed the implementation of the constitutional system, parliamentary democracy and judicial system.
Likewise, the Group has also urged the government to focus on curbing COVID-19 pandemic.
