ECN sends letter to NCP factions denying recognition to party split

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission of Nepal (ECN) has sent an 11-page-long letter to Prime Minister KP Oli and Prachanda-Nepal factions of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP).

The letter has been sent to both the factions in line with Rule 25 (5) of the Political Party Regulations, stating that the ECN is not satisfied with the claims made by the factions on the party’s name and the election symbol.

A meeting of the ECN held on Sunday had decided to not grant recognition to the split of the NCP, invalidating the appointments of chairman, spokesperson and central committee members by the factions.

The Prachanda-Nepal faction had dismissed Oli from their faction, stripping him of the general membership of the party.

Similarly, the Oli-faction has increased the party’s central committee body to 1,501 from 441 members.
