Valley administration positive on resumption of public transport adhering to safety protocol, says FNNTE

KATHMANDU: The local administration is positive about allowing the resumption of public vehicles in the Kathmandu Valley by maintaining safety protocol, said the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE).

Transport entrepreneurs and officials on Thursday held a discussion in this regard at the Kathmandu District Administration Office. During the talk, officials were positive to allow resumption of public transport in the Valley by following the health protocol, said the FNNTE President, Yogendra Nath Karmacharya.

Transport workers and owners have been hit hard as public transport came to a halt for around two months following the second wave of COVID-19.

In response, Chief District Officer of Kathmandu Kali Prasad Parajuli pledged to take a decision to this effect within June 27 after holding consultation with the Home Secretary and Chief Secretary. Transport entrepreneurs have been demanding all transportation systems should be allowed instead of implementing odd and even number plate rule, reasoning that passengers would find it difficult to travel on crowded vehicles if the odd and even number plate rule is imposed. They have also asked for allowing resumption of public vehicles outside the Kathmandu Valley.

The FNNTE has also been demanding that all transport workers be vaccinated against COVID-19.
