Cyclone to affect weather from today, mountaineers alerted

KATHMANDU: Gusty winds, rain, and snowfall have been forecast beginning today due to the cyclone that has developed in the low-pressure system over the east-central part of the Bay of Bengal.

The Meteorological Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast that the low-pressure area has transformed into a cyclone today and it will develop into a powerful cyclone by Tuesday.

The weather will be generally completely cloudy at many places of the country towards the afternoon on Tuesday due to this cyclonic system with chances of light to moderate snowfall/rainfall at some places of the high mountainous and hilly regions of Bagmati Province and Province no 1.

The Division has urged the mountaineers to adopt precaution and stay safe for some days beginning Tuesday as there is the possibility of gusty winds, snowfall, and rain in the high mountainous region.

There are chances of light to moderate rainfall at many places of the country for few days from Wednesday onwards. Likewise, the Division has predicted heavy rain at few places in Province no 1, Province no 2, and Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces. Similarly, heavy rain is forecast at one or two places of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces on Thursday.

The Division has urged for adopting necessary precaution as there is a possibility of thunder and lightning, high winds, and rainfall together with hailstone. It said it has been constantly monitoring this weather system and would regularly give the updates accordingly.
