KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) is hearing the writ petition filed against the appointment of Kulman Ghising as the Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) by former MD Hitendra Dev Shakya.

A single bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana himself is looking into the case.

Former MD Shakya moved the Supreme Court with a writ petition seeking revocation of the appointment of  Ghising as NEA’s new MD.

In the writ petition, Shakya claimed that he had not received any official letter of removal from office and the government’s move of roping in Ghising to replace him had violated his constitutional rights.

Shakya sought an interim order to reinstate himself as the managing director of NEA. He has named the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Ministry of Energy, Minister of Energy, NEA Board of Directors and Executive Director Kulman Ghising as defendants in the writ petition.

Earlier, the government had given Shakya a Secretary-level posting at Water and Energy Commission for four years and appointed Ghising in his place to lead the NEA for the second time.
