HoR dissolution puts democracy at risk: NC President Deuba

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the dissolution of the House of Representatives has put democracy at risk.

The refusal to receive an application to claim the prime ministerial post signed by a majority of 149 members of the lower house as per the President’s call in this regard was an attack on democratic norms and values, he said at an interaction among the opposition parties and editors of various mass media here on Thursday.

The formation of a united front of five main opposition parties means to work for the national welfare, safeguard the Constitution, democracy and save people from pandemics of diseases and natural disasters.

The front is committed to the implementing of the federal democratic republic, social justice, inclusive democracy, legal governance, and prosperity while putting national interests and welfare of the people at the center, he said.

The former Prime Minister accused the incumbent government of dissolving the HoR twice, exercising power through an ordinance and interfering in free judiciary and constitutional bodies, and failing to be effectively-prepared to save lives of people from natural disasters and provide the second doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
