Physical activity: Improving the quality of life



KATHMANDU: Physical activity can improve one’s health and reduce the risk of developing diseases such as diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease. 

Physical activity can also have immediate and long-term health benefits. 

It can improve the quality of life.

Doctors suggest a minimum of 30-40 minutes of exercise a day will give an immense benefit.

Benefits of regular physical activity

The benefits of regular physical activity will reduce the risk of a heart attack besides managing the weight better. 

Likewise, it can also have a lower blood cholesterol level and lower the risk of type 2 diabetes and some cancers. 

Doctors say that regular physical activity will lower blood pressure, help to develop stronger bones, muscles and joints and lower the risk of developing osteoporosis. 

It will also help to recover better from periods of hospitalization or bed rest. 

According to doctors, regular physical activity will make a person feel better – with more energy, a good mood, feel more relaxed and sleep better. 

Most importantly, it will lead to a healthier state of mind. 

According to studies, exercise helps depression by blocking negative thoughts. 

Physical activity also changes the levels of chemicals in a person’s brain, such as serotonin, endorphins and stress hormones.
