KATHMANDU: The Sushil Koirala Memorial Foundation has demanded that the government provide proper compensation to the farmers affected by the unseasonal rains.

The Foundation has expressed sorrow over the loss of thousands of hectares of paddy due to floods, landslides and inundation in many districts due to unseasonal rains that started since mid-October.

In a statement issued by the Foundation’s Chairman Dr Shashank Koirala and Member Secretary Atul Koirala, the government has been urged to expedite the relief and rehabilitation work by providing appropriate compensation to the disaster survivors.

The Foundation has also drawn attention to assess the damage on the agricultural sector as thousands of hectares of paddy fields have been destroyed due to unseasonal rains. It has also appealed for rescue, relief and other assistance in this hour of grief.
