Ruling alliance objects UML’s threatening remarks against Speaker



KATHMANDU: Ruling coalition comprising Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-Maoist Center, Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) and Rastriya Janamorcha have condemned to the CPN-UML’s threatening remarks against the Speaker of House of Representatives Agni Prasad Sapkota.

Issuing a joint statement on Monday, the parties of the alliance formed against former KP Oli-led government said that they have drawn serious attention to the threatening remarks made against the Speaker.

On August 19 and 20, UML lawmakers staged a sit-in at the Speaker’s office in Singha Durbar demanding the Speaker to verify action taken against 14 lawmakers including former Senior leader of the party Madhav Kumar Nepal.

During the protest, the UML lawmakers had used threatening language against Speaker Sapkota.

“The incident of UML lawmakers encircling Speaker’s Office, launching sit-in against him, and using indecent threatening language against the Speaker has really drawn In the process, the lawmakers drew serious attention to the threatening remarks made by the lawmakers against Speaker Sapkota,” the statement read, adding, “ This is against parliamentary dignity.”

They have also urged to abide by the parliamentary ethics.

NC parliamentary party whip Pushpa Bhusal, Maoist Center chief whip Dev Prasad Gurung, JSP Nepal’s representative Pradip Yadav, Janamorcha’d parliamentary party leader Durga Poudel and lawmaker Jeevan Ram Shrestha issued the statement.
