Police recover large cache of ammunition in Rolpa

KATHMANDU: Police have recovered a large number of magazines and ammunitions of modern weapons in Rolpa Saturday.

The ammunition was found hidden near a community forest at Rampur of Tribeni Rural Municipality.

According to Rolpa Police Chief Naresh Raj Subedi, 23 SMG magazines, one M16 magazine and one LMG magazine were recovered. Similarly, 752 bullets of AK-47, 208 rounds of 7.62 mm bullets, and 10 rounds of 9 mm bullets were recovered from the site.

Acting on a tip-off from Batuk Dal of Nepal Army, police recovered the stash of ammunition.

Subedi said the contraband was not old but seemed new and must have been hidden in course of transportation. “These do not look like these are insurgency era magazines and bullets,” Subedi said.

Large quantities of weapons are found in Rolpa time and again. The Nepal Army seized a large number of weapons from a village in Rolpa last year too but did not make it public, citing political pressure.
