Govt sacks Administrator of Employees Provident Fund Gautam

KATHMANDU: The government has sacked Board Member and Chief Administrator of Employees Provident Fund Tulasi Gautam.

According to a source close to the Ministry of Finance, the cabinet meeting held last Thursday decided to relieve Gautam from the post.

As per legal provision, the administrator of the Employees Provident Fund has to be a beneficiary who has been contributing to the fund. The source said Gautam was removed since he retired as joint secretary of Government of Nepal. However, the government has yet to officially hand him a letter of retirement.

Gautam is also the chairman of Himalayan Bank. Gautam was elected chairman representing the Employees Provident Fund in the Bank, which is in the process of merger with Nepal Investment Bank. As soon as he leaves the chief administrator’s post, he will also have to resign from the post of chairman of Himalayan Bank.
