Joint bench led by CJ Rana hearing writ against cabinet reformation today

KATHMANDU:  A joint bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana and Justice Kumar Prasad Dhungana is hearing the writ petitions filed against the cabinet reformation today.

The Supreme Court has summoned both plaintiffs and defendants in the court for discussions.

If the Supreme Court issues a stay order on the cabinet reformation, Prime Minister Oli-led government’s decision to reform the cabinet will be invalid.

The Supreme Court has recently reversed some of the decisions taken by the government.

On June 8, a single bench of Justice Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada had issued a show cause notice seeking a valid reason behind the reformation of the cabinet within 15 days.

Legal practitioners including senior Advocate Dinesh Tripathi had filed a writ petition against the cabinet reformation, mentioning the President and the Prime Minister as defendants.

The complainants in the writ have demanded an interim order on the cabinet reformation arguing that a caretaker Prime Minister cannot reform the cabinet.

If the Supreme Court issues the stay order on the writ as many as 21 newly elected ministers will lose their jobs today.
