Govt lifts ban on import of vehicles priced over $50,000

KATHMANDU: The government has lifted the ban on import of vehicles costing over $50,000.

A meeting of the Council of Minister held Sunday decided to lift the ban.

Last year, former Finance Minister Yuvaraj Khatiwada banned import of vehicles priced over $50,000 to minimize the national trade deficit.

The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies has published a notice in the Nepal Gazette regarding the lifting of ban on import of vehicles valued at more than $50,000.

Likewise, the government also lifted the ban on import of spices, namely black pepper, betel nut, dates and peas.

The import quota for peas, betel nut and dates has been set at 80,000, 25,000 and 5,000 metric ton respectively.
