Govt-Biplav involved in informal talks, next Cabinet meeting likely to lift ban

KATHMANDU: The government has been holding informal talks with the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) led by Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’.

According to a source, the government side is holding informal talks first to make the talks result-oriented and then formally giving a ‘surprise’ once the concrete results are reached.

Meanwhile, informal letters have been exchanged between the government and Biplav outfit.

Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali and Biplav outfit’s leader Chiran Pun held talks in Kathmandu.

According to a source, it was agreed that a next Cabinet meeting will lift the ban on the outfit. The outfit had earlier submitted its demand to the government through a letter.

The government has not agreed to release those involved in heinous crimes, however, it has stopped arresting the outfit’s leaders and cadres as informal talks continue.
