CJ asks lawyers to shorten debates

KATHMANDU: Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra Shumsher Rana has asked the lawyers taking part in the hearing on the writ petition demanding the reinstatement of the House of Representatives (HoR) to shorten the time as it may prolong the hearing period, yet added the Bench is ready to give two months if deemed essential.

Considering the high number of advocates taking part in the writ against the dissolution of HoR, Chief Justice has been advising the advocates to shorten their presentation of late.

Chief Justice Rana asked advocate Kapil Prasad Adhikari to complete his presentation in 10 minutes on Friday.

However, advocate Adhikari replied that it was not possible to finish his presentation in 10 minutes. Then, the CJ remarked that the court was ready to provide time if needed.

“Even if we debate for two months, it will give time, but you have to think about it.”

Chief Justice Rana drew the attention of the advocates to the possible impact of prolonging the debate.

“There are about 300 lawyers, tell us, what happens if one takes too much time,” Chief Justice Rana told the lawyers.

However, after the CJ reminded to shorten the debate, advocate Adhikari shortened his presentation in five minutes alone.

The hearing on the writ petition against the dissolution of the HoR is undergoing since Sunday. In addition to Adhikari, senior advocate Narahari Acharya and Janak Saud have completed their presentation on Friday.
