Unified Socialist’s Pandey likely to become Chief Minister in Bagmati Province

Unified Socialist and NC strike agreement to hold the CM's post alternatively as CM Shakya takes vote of confidence despite being in minority



KATHMANDU: Rajendra Pandey, parliamentary party (PP) leader of the CPN-Unified Socialist in Bagmati Province Assembly, is set to become the Chief Minister of Bagmati Province as Chief Minister Asta Laxmi Shakya is taking a vote of confidence Thursday.

Speaking at a meeting of the Bagmati Province Assembly on Thursday, CPN-Maoist Center parliamentary party (PP) leader Shalikram Jammakattel said that Pandey was proposed as the chief minister on behalf of the four-party alliance after CM Shakya is in a clear minority. Jammarkattel also urged CM Shakya to resign as she was in clear miniority.

Meanwhile, CPN-Unified Socialist and Nepali Congress (NC) have agreed to hold the post of Chief Minister of Bagmati Province for half term.

The Unified Socialist and the NC have agreed in writing to lead the government turn wise after the government led by Chief Minister Asta Laxmi Shakya fell into the minority. According to Unified Socialist Bagmati Province Assembly Whip Basundhara Humagain, a meeting of ruling coalition parties in Hetauda Thursday morning agreed to lead the government alternately.

Humagain added that Unified Socialist Bagmati Assembly PP leader Pandey will become the chief minister firstly for the first seven months. In the next seven months, NC PP leader Indra Baniya will become the chief minister, as per the agreement.

CM Shakya is taking a vote of confidence Thursday.
