KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leaders aspiring for party presidency in the 14th general convention have held a discussion regarding picking a common candidate on Saturday.
Senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, former general secretary Prakshman Singh and General Secretary Dr. Shashank Koirala held discussion’s at Koirala’s residence in Maharajgunj Saturday evening. Another aspirant from the Poudel’s faction, Dr. Shekhar Koirala is in Biratnagar and missed the meeting.
A source close to Poudel said the meeting ended inconclusively after an hour as the three leaders could not agree on the consensus candidate.
Senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel was of the view that his candidacy was a suitable option as he promised to take a leave after holding the three-tier election and was in favor of discussing who else could be accommodated in other places.
However, former general secretary Singh said that he had already made preparations to contest for the presidency and proposed discussing power sharing within the party.
General Secretary Koirala, reminding that e was also a strong candidate, emphasized only one candidate from the Poudel faction.
The three leaders agreed not to make public comments about each other and agreed to give NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba as taste of loss in the 14th General Convention.
Senior leader Poudel said discussions would be continued and were positive.
