Udhauli to foster mutual goodwill and fraternity: PM Deuba



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed the confidence that Udhauli, the great festival of Kirat community, would help foster mutual goodwill and fraternity among all religious, ethnic and linguistic communities.

In a message of best wishes given today, the PM has expressed best wishes to all Nepali sisters and brothers at home and abroad on the occasion of Udhauli festival.

The people from Kirat community residing in the upper hills of eastern Nepal observe this festival on Mangsir purnima every year as per the lunar calendar.

As believed by the community, this festival marks the beginning of the winter season and is regarded as an appropriate time to move downhill from the uphill by taking the cattle.

Likewise, this festival is observed to celebrate crop harvesting.
