Police complaint filed against misinformation about MCC on social media

KATHMANDU: A police complaint has been filed with the police in relation to spread of misinformation about Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) on social media.

The complaint was lodged alleging that a document containing the fake signature of Millennium Challenge Account Nepal (MCA-Nepal) Development Board’s Executive Director Khadga Bahadur Bista and the logos of the Government of Nepal, MCA-Nepal and MCC were being misused on social media and that some newspapers and TV channels were also being utilized to circulate misleading information about MCC.

MCA-Nepal Executive Director Khadga Bahadur Bista, journalist Kanak Mani Dixit and analyst Arun Kumar Subedi lodged a complaint demanding trace of the origin of the fake document and action against individuals involved in disseminating the misleading information. They also stated that the fake dossier attacked the dignity of some individuals and organizations.

Police said they were investigating the complaint and trying to get information on some issues through Facebook and Twitter. Nepal Police Cyber Bureau DSP Pradip Tamrakar said a preliminary investigation is underway.
