KATHMANDU: As many as five writ petitions have been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) against the ordinance to amend the Political Parties Act, 2073 BS issued by the government.
The ordinance was issued by President Bidya Bhandari on Wednesday on the recommendation of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.
“Five writ petitions have been filed against the ordinance on party split until Thursday morning,” said Kishor Paudel, adding, “The writ petitions are being registered immediately.”
The ordinance stipulates that 20 percent central members and the same percent of parliamentarians can split the party.
With the ordinance issued by the government, the Nepal-Khanal faction of the CPN-UM has broken away from the mother party to form CPN-UML (Socialist).
Similarly, Thakur-Mahato faction of the Janata Samajwadi Party has also registered a new party JSP (Democratic) at the Election Commission.
