President, Prime Minister in the game of ‘ending’ constitution: Former Prez Yadav

JANAKPURDHAM: Nepal’s first President, Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has accused President Bidya Devi Bhandari for involving in the process of tarnishing the image of the presidency by legitimizing the proposal to dissolve the parliament in an unconstitutional manner instead of protecting the essence of the Constitution.

He termed the dissolution of the House as a “complete trampling on the essence and spirit of the constitution, democracy, republic, federalism and the principle of inclusive proportionality”.

Unveiling Sobhakar Parajuli’s book on ‘Socialism and BP Koirala and BP’s collection of Ideas in Janakpurdham on Friday, he said that the role of the Prime Minister was directly supported by the President to end democracy and the Constitution.

Likewise, Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala said that the dissolution of the parliament and pushing the country toward conflict was a wring move taken by the President.

“The President is a dignified position, but has been a problem when the country’s President has been working in favor of a party’s faction today,” he said.

He also expressed the fear that the failure to hold the election would jeopardize the constitution and federalism and plunge the country into further conflict.

“Elections are necessary in a democracy, but not a mockery of the constitution, human rights, civil liberties, democracy,” he said.
