KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Shekhar Koirala, who lost the contest for the post of party President with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, has automatically become a central member of the party.
According to NC sources, a provision in the amended constitution of NC automatically paved the way for him to become a central member despite not contesting for the post.
Article 65 of the NC constitution states that the presidential candidate securing the second highest votes becomes a central member of the party automatically.
Dr. Koirala stood second out of five contestants in the fray for the party president.
