Government moving forward undemocratically: Dr. Shekhar Koirala

BIRATNAGAR: Ruling party Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has said the government is moving ahead in an undemocratic manner.

Speaking to reporters in Biratnagar on Saturday, Koirala retorted that it was undemocratic to run the country through an ordinance by deceiving the parliament. “The government brought the ordinance on party division by skipping the parliament,” he said, adding, “It is clear that the government is moving in an undemocratic way.”

An aspirant for the NC presidency, Koirala said though the government was NC-led, one should not hesitate from criticizing its wrongdoings. He expressed concern over the government’s failure to expand the cabinet even after 67 days of government formation.

Dr. Koirala reiterated the need to change NC leadership. “We will announce our candidature after the district conventions to change the leadership of the party,” he said.

Regarding the queries about Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), one of the mega grants from the US government, NC leader Koirala said that the confusions in the public have to be resolved by clarifying people. He added that the grant would be accepted in consensus soon.

Similarly, he also claimed that an NC-led government would be formed in Province 1 and Bagmati Province.

Koirala clarified that NC will not go to the polls with the current alliance.
