16 die mysteriously in Bihar, officials probe ‘alcohol poisoning’ angle

BIHAR: As many as 16 people have mysteriously died in Bihar’s West Champaran district in what is being suspected as a hooch tragedy.

Five people have been detained and two village chowkidars have been suspended in connection with the deaths, India Today has reported.

Family members of the victims are said to have quietly buried and cremated the bodies out of fear of police action, the report said.

Bihar was declared a dry state in 2016 under a new stringent prohibition law, India Today said.
