Maoist Center reaches EC demanding dismissal of its 18 leaders defecting to UML

KATHMANDU: The CPN-Maoist Center has drawn the attention of the Election Commission (EC) saying that the Maoist Center leaders defecting to the CPN-UML were not relieved of their posts yet.

The Maoist Center had expelled 18 of its people’s representatives, including Ram Bahadur Thapa and Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, from the party after they joined the UML.

Maoist leader Leela Mani Pokharel said that Maoist leaders had to reach the EC Friday after the latter did not relieve the 18 elected officials nor issued any notice of action against them. “We had registered a letter of action against the defecting leaders with the EC. But the EC has not released any information regarding it,”Pokharel said.

The Maoist Center urged the EC to dismiss the leaders stating that it had completed the legislative process regarding the action.

However, Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Thapaliya said the Maoist application lacked the required documents and the EC had not received the decision of the Central Committee to dismiss the leaders.

Leader Pokharel, however, said the Central Committee had entrusted the authority to take action on the party Chairman and urged the EC to move forward with the process.

There is a legal provision that the people’s representative will not be dismissed until the EC issues a notice in that regard.
