KATHMANDU: The meeting of the executive committee of the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) has been postponed.

Leader Keshav Jha informed that the meeting was postponed due to lack of preparation.

He said that the meeting was postponed due to the delay in preparing party integration documents.

However, according to sources, the meeting was postponed due to disagreement between the party leaders over forming a new government or supporting KP Oli-led government.

JSP had called the meeting to elect both leader and deputy leader of the parliamentary party (PP).

The party has not elected deputy and PP leaders after Samajwadi Party and Rastriya Janata Party unified to become Janata Samajwadi Party last year.

The JSP is electing its deputy and PP leaders at a time when the opposition parties represented in the parliament are rendering efforts to form an alliance for new power-sharing.

The JSP, the fourth largest party with 34 seats in the House of Representatives (HoR), has been the most decisive party for the new power equation.

The Oli-led government will continue with the support from the JSP and a new government can also be formed if it lends support to Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Center).

According to sources, the party is likely to elect Central Council Chairman Mahanta Thakur as its PP leader.
