Senior Advocate Thapa challenges SC judges to issue verdicts sans participation of lawyers

KATHMANDU: Former president of Nepal Bar Association senior Advocate Shambhu Thapa has challenged the Supreme Court (SC) judges to issue orders in cases in which lawyers do not debate.

Thapa’s challenge was to the handful SC judges who sat on bench to hear cases despite the boycott of bench by majority of apex court judges and Nepal Bar’s struggle demanding resignation of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana.

Addressing Nepal Bar’s demonstration at main gate of the Supreme Court Wednesday, Thapa challenged SC judges to issues orders in cases wherein legal practitioners do not argue. He added that SC judges could not issue verdicts without advocates.

Stating that Nepal Bar was not only protesting to remove the Chief Justice, Thapa said that with the appointment of next Chief Justice, judges and lawyers would also being investigated for corruption. He said that this protest was rather a campaign to reform the court.
