CCMC recommends school closure in urban areas



KATHMANDU: A meeting of the COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC) at Singha Durbar on Saturday decided to recommend closure of schools of urban areas, including Kathmandu, till Mid-May.

Speaking to the reporters after Saturday’s CCMC meeting in Kathmandu, Minister for Agriculture Padma Aryal informed that CCMC recommended government to close schools in urban areas and enforce COVID-19 related new health standards to curb the wide spreading pandemic.

According to her, CCMC has decided to let the local governments to decide in rural areas.

Similarly, the government is set to issue new coronavirus-related health standards. Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali said that new health safety protocol was proposed at the meeting and it would be finalized and approved by the Council of Ministers.

Despite the increase in coronavirus cases in schools and colleges, the government has been hesitant to take any decision due to the mounting pressure from school operators.

CCMC decision will come into effect only after the cabinet’s approval.
