‘NC convention has opened up avenues for women’s ascent to leadership’



KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Sujata Koirala claimed that the party’s 14th general convention has paved the path for women to graduate to party leadership in near future.

Koirala has been defeated in the race of Vice President of NC.

Issuing a statement today, Koirala, said the women representatives who came to participate in party’s general convention from every nooks and corners of the country were found excited and enthused and women leadership would be established soon in the party.

“The issue I raised for women’s equal participation in all apparatuses of the party and State has gained space at national and international level”, reads the statement.

She also pledged to continue raising the issue and advance the struggle for equality. Noting that she has ever been inspired from Girija Prasad Koirala’s ideas of consensus, collaboration and unity in politics, she said. Former Deputy Prime Minister Koirala also congratulated Purna Bahadur Khadka and Dhanraj Gurung on being elected to the post of Vice-President of the party.
