RASUWA: The Bhotekoshi flood has caused extensive damage to private and public property in Rasuwa, with the District Administration Office releasing preliminary details of the destruction caused by the flood on the 10th of the month.
According to Assistant Chief District Officer Dhruva Prasad Adhikari, the flood damaged 28 government and public buildings, eight community schools, three private schools, 14 banks and financial institutions, one petrol station and around 1,500 private houses.
The flood swept away 41 kilometres of roads, six concrete bridges, eight Bailey bridges and 10 suspension bridges in the district.
Eight hydropower projects built along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers and the Langtang Khola have suffered complete damage, according to the preliminary assessment.
The affected projects include the 111-MW Rasuwagadhi, 120-MW Bhotekoshi, 20-MW Chilime, 20-MW Langtang Khola, 216-MW Upper Trishuli-1, 5-MW Mailung Khola, 60-MW Upper Trishuli-3A and 37.3-MW Trishuli-3B projects.
Search and rescue efforts continue
Search and rescue operations are continuing for people trapped inside tunnels of various hydropower projects following the flood.
The Nepali Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police are involved in the rescue operations. The District Disaster Management Committee said experts from South Korea, India and China have also been deployed in the affected areas to provide additional assistance.
So far, 1,365 residents of Rasuwa, 1,160 people from other districts and 264 tourists remain unaccounted for following the flood.
Similarly, 26 employees of banks and financial institutions, 79 government employees, 13 Armed Police Force personnel, 28 Nepal Police personnel and 27 Nepali Army personnel are also reported missing, according to Assistant CDO Adhikari.
He said relief supplies are being distributed by helicopter to facilitate food supplies for residents in the affected areas.
