‘Earthquake awareness program’ held at Indreshwori



MELAMCHI: An ‘earthquake awareness program in school’ has been organized at a local Indreshwori Secondary School of Melamchi bazaar.

At the program organized with the assistance from a university of Switzerland, orientation was provided to students and teachers on how the human loss could be minimized in the earthquake, according to school teacher Lekhnath Bhattarai.

Trainer and expert on earthquake, Shiva Subedi, informed the research had shown that the force concentrated under the surface of western belt of Nepal could cause earthquake measuring up to eight Richter scale.

As it is a natural disaster, it cannot be controlled but the loss it causes can be minimized with massive public awareness and preparedness.

On the occasion, former principle of the school, Radhakrishna Shrestha, said a seismometer was installed at Indreshwori Secondary School with the assistance of Melamchi Municipality.

It is helpful to teach students how the earthquake is measured and the structures get damaged with quake.

Moreover, the expert informed that the seismometers were installed at 22 schools of Nepal under the ‘Earthquake awareness programme in school’.

Even the technical skills of installation were shared under the programme, he added.
