Floods kill at least 42 in West Germany

KATHMANDU: At least 42 people have been killed in floods induced by incessant rains in West Germany. Many others are missing in the incident.

The states of Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia have been hardest hit by the floods, according to local police. Many homes and cars have been swept away in those states.

Similarly, six people were killed in floods in neighboring Belgium. The Belgian government has urged all residents of the eastern city of Liege to move to safety.

The Netherlands has also been badly affected by the floods. The floods have damaged many homes in the southern province of Limburg. Many care homes have also been evacuated, according to local police.

Experts say heavy rains in some parts of Western Europe have caused major river dams to collapse.
