9 houses swept away by Kaligandaki



PARBAT: Nine houses in Setibeni, the confluence of Parbat, Syangja and Gulmi were swept away by floods triggered by heavy rainfall since Saturday.

Six houses in Galyang municipality-5, Syangja and one in Bihadi rural municipality-6, Parbat were washed away by the floodwater from the Kaligandaki River. Furthermore, floodwater has inundated 15 houses in the area, according to RSS.

The displaced have been rescued and taken to higher ground, local resident Tilak Parajuli said. Water level and current in Kaligandaki and Setikhola have spurred, with the water flowing above the bridge of Setikhola, linking Parbat and Syangja districts.

No human casualty has been reported so far, while essentials from the people’s houses were retrieved. The bazaar towards Syangja is current at high risk of being washed away, as rainfall continues, it said.

The police post in Setibeni is meanwhile urging the people to move to higher and safer locations.
