Police arrest Binay Jung for “abusing” Sapana Roka Magar

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested Binay Jung Basnet on charges of abusing Sapana Roka Magar, who is on the BBC’s list of influential women.

Sapana was recognized by the BBC as one of the 100 most inspiring and influential women of 2020 for her “brave act” of cremating unclaimed bodies.

A police team from the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police arrested Basnet on Tuesday from Gongabu in Kathmandu.

Kathmandu Police Chief SSP Ashok Singh confirmed Basnet’s arrest.

Sapana had demanded justice, including security from Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, saying that Basnet had threatened her through YouTube and assassinated her character.

She had also lodged a complaint against Basnet last Sunday alleging Binay of threatening her that he would make public her nude pictures on YouTube.
