KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) and senior Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader Balendra Shah “Balen” expressed his delight on social media late Tuesday night after Rabi Lamichhane was re-elected unopposed as the party’s chair during its first general convention.
Lamichhane filed his nomination for the post on Tuesday at the party’s ongoing general convention in Chitwan, with Balen proposing his candidacy. As no other candidate filed nominations for the position, the RSP Central Election Commission declared Lamichhane elected unopposed.
Following the announcement, Balen shared a sketch featuring himself and Lamichhane on social media and extended his best wishes to the party.
Writing in Romanized Nepali, he posted: “Best wishes to our party. May everyone succeed. May the country prosper.”
According to the RSP statute, candidates for the posts of president and senior leader are not required to be elected as central committee members beforehand.
Elections for the remaining party positions are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, beginning with voting for central committee members.
The voting schedule has yet to be announced. According to Bhuvan KC, head of the party’s election commission, results will be made public within two hours after voting concludes.
