During the meeting, Nepal’s ILO Chief inquired about government commitment to ensure the basic rights of all laborers in the country.

In response, Minister Shrestha said that the government was committed to ensuring the basic rights of all workers in line with the concept of dignified labor. He reminded that the Constitution of Nepal enshrines the right to employment as a fundamental right and guarantees the right of all workers to practice their skills well.

Stating that the government has taken the policy of creating employment in the country by making the labor force efficient and professional, Minister Shrestha said that the government has moved ahead to implement the strategy of linking labor with skill, skill with employment, employment with production and production with market.

During the meeting, Howard, the ILO’s Nepal director, expressed the ILO’s commitment to further partnership and cooperation with Nepal in labor administration reform and building skilled manpower. Nepal became a member of the International Labor Organization in 1966, a specialized body of the United Nations.
