Maoist Spokesperson Shrestha accuses EC of being govt’s hand puppet

KATHMANDU:  Maoist Center leader and Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha has accused the Election Commission (EC) of being a puppet of the government.

Taking to Twitter Tuesday, he wrote, “The EC has been working as a puppet of the government to mock the law and democracy. I condemn such action of a constitutional body. This is clear from its recent decision about Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP). It did the same to Nepal Communist Party (NCP).”

Leader Shrestha also attributed the current political crisis and instability to the EC’s decision on the NCP.

He said political parties ought to oppose EC’s such moves and start speaking even when their interests were not connected.

JSP co-chairmen had approached the EC to update the registration book of the party as per their actions after they expelled each other from the party. In the JSP dispute, the EC recently ruled that actions taken by both sides were invalid and it could not register their actions as had demanded by the rival factions.

In another tweet Tuesday, Shrestha demanded immediate arrangement of vaccines against coronavirus while slamming Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for addressing the parliament, saying Nepalis had greater immunity against the virus.
